Rectangular Rooms

If your ceiling measurements are 8' x 12', 12' x 16', etc. (multiples of 4) you may cover the entire ceiling by installing uncut sheets  side by side. Refer to Diagram #1.

If your ceiling measurements are divisible by 16" you may cover the entire ceiling by cutting one or two panels from a sheet to adjoin to full sheets. Refer to Diagram #2.

If neither of these is possible, it will be necessary to have a surrounding border of standard drywall filler pieces. Determine how many full sheets (48" wide) and partial sheets (16" or 32" wide) will nearly fill the ceiling width and length. Divide the remainder of each of these dimensions to determine your border widths. Refer to Diagram #3.

An alternative installation plan is based on surrounding each 48" x 48"  sheet of DESIGNER DRYWALL is with spacer pieces of consistent width. Refer to diagram #4.

Ceiling installations are considerably simplified by applying our product directly to an existing or newly installed base of gypsum drywall or plywood. This method permits screw fastening through the borders directly to the sublayer material.

If your layout requires cutting any sheet of DESIGNER DRYWALL position the cut side to the surrounding filler pieces.

Irregularly Shaped Rooms

Prepare a simple layout with all dimensions. It is unlikely that a room of this type will permit full ceiling coverage. Plan the surrounding borders to be as equal as possible. Refer to diagram #5.

General notes:

If your ceiling layout includes recessed or surface mounted light fixtures position them to fall on the center of a raised panel, border or surround filler pieces.

When joining the factory edge of DESIGNER DRYWALL to 5/8" gypsum wallboard use only the tapered edge of this material.

When joining the cut edge of DESIGNER DRYWALL to a square or tapered edge of  5/8" gypsum wallboard, cut a small bevel along our sheet. This type of joint requires framing or solid blocking for screw fastening. Fill with joint compound only and feather into adjoining wallboard.
